Description
The Battle of Yellow Tavern on May 11, 1864, is one of the smaller battles fought during General Ulysses S. Grant’s Overland Campaign. The battle itself was not terribly significant except for the fact that the great Confederate cavalry commander General James Ewell Brown “Jeb” Stuart was mortally wounded during this battle. As he lie suffering, General Stuart, a teetotaler all of his life, refused a spot of brandy to ease his pain. General Stuart is shown as the ghostlike figure on the right and on the left is General Philip Sheridan.
